Rose Marie Strippoli - July Guest Presenter

AOY President ~ Rose Marie Strippoli

Guest Presenter at our AOY Meeting
Wednesday, July 1st at 7:00pm.
in the
Bucks County Library on
Edgewood Road in Yardley at 7:00pm.

"The Red Man"

"Without a plan, my imagination takes charge. There is a freedom in this method, a whole library of pictures in my mind... and a lifetime of ‘seeing’ brings it all together in the end.”

Rose Marie Strippoli began her career in the arts as a Seamstress, eventually developing award winning skills as an Abstract painter. She paints with intricate splashes of color and surging contours. Rose Marie's paintings are bright and intense. What strikes the viewer is that she does not repeat a pattern or a stroke; each painting evolves with its own abstraction. There is a mystery in Rose Marie’s work, subtleties that quietly emerge in the background or fade in the storm that swirls around them. Rose Marie is an avid artist who paints every spare moment, any hour of the day – she works on five to ten pieces at a time. “Each time I look at the canvas, there is a new painting - I see it with different eyes."

Rose Marie is the featured artist in the AOY April 2009 newsletter.

AOY at Riverrun Gallery

The Artists of Yardley

had a terrific show!

at
the

Riverrun Gallery in Lambertville, NJ

Along with hundreds of art enthusiasts who
visited the gallery throughout the exhibit,

we had great press coverage on-line

and in several publications
:

Bucks Magazine - May/June Issue
:
http://bucksmagazine.epubxpress.com/wps/portal/bc/ (page 30).

"Separately, they are individuals chasing after their unique creative curiosities. Together, they are a powerful statement on where such pursuits can lead and how those fruits can launch new generations of imaginative exploration. In an organization like the Artists of Yardley, it's hardly as clear-cut as painters influencing painters. It's more like painters riffs on a piece of blown glass. It's in those intriguing cross-sections that the creative juices flow fastest and groundbreaking discoveries are made."
Scott Edwards - Editor "Bucks Magazine"

Courier Times "To Do" Section - May 22nd

" The Artists of Yardley keep the Bucks County fine-arts tradition going
with a group show of work by painters of note, and those who aspire to make their mark on the cultural scene."
Gwen Shrift - Staff Writer "Courier Times"

and in...

And the Questions Are Enough:
AOY Members Publish Poetry Book

AOY members Stephen Millner and Marie Kane have produced and published an anthology of poetry that showcases the work of thirty-six poets from Dr. Christopher Bursk’s Master Poetry Class at Bucks County Community College. The poems, which were composed in Bursk’s class, are enhanced by twenty-four of Stephen Millner’s photographs.

In her review of the book, poet Lynn Levin comments that And the Questions Are Enough contains poems of “tenderness and fury, poems eloquent and plain spoken, poems that present both vignettes of daily life and profound inquiries into the human condition.” She goes on to say that Stephen Millner’s photographs are “shots that capture the world in eerie and lovely moments.”

Net proceeds from the sale of this book ($7.00) go to the Beverly Stoughton Foundation, which funds a scholarship for a female Bucks County Community College student with a commitment to poetry.

IN MEMORY OF JOHN SEARS

John Sears... artist, teacher, husband and father... passed away on April 28, 2009.

John, an AOY member, endured a 24 year battle from a brain injury sustained after a bicycle crash in 1985. At the time, John was teaching at George School in Langhorne, PA. John loved his job, he loved teaching; his students referred to him as a “born teacher”. John's determination to live a creative life against all odds never ceased. With the love and support of his wonderful wife, Anne Sears, John continued to pursue his passions, achieving his goals and winning many awards along the way.
